LEMUR-AG15 A passive solar shielding performance textile for external equipment housings, buildings & structures. Developed to answer the call for a passive solution to cooling trackside equipment housings and the mitigation of alternative carbon generating air conditioning systems. LEMUR-AG15 (Low emissivity Magnetic U reflector) was developed at Haide Technologies and further enhanced and tested at LJMU (Liverpool John Moore University) in collaboration with Network Rail. This game-changing material is in its second year of trackside deployment on the railways and is already saving Network rail projects Millions of pounds in historic summer failures and associated train delay. A pilot for the technology the success of LEMUR-AG15 on the railways is to now be extended to Highways, telecoms and construction where similar failure modes exist.

The Journey

Developed Over 3 Years
This invention relates to an electromagnetic reflector and solar mitigation textile fitted to the external surface of outdoor equipment housings. The Invention is a Low emissivity magnetic UV reflector (LEMUR) composed of an aluminium and glass compounds supplied with or without structural adhesive tape backing. A total of 15 prototypes were developed before achieving the correct manufacturing formula and therefore this product is forthwith referred to as LEMUR-AG15. The material of the components to be shielded are of known construction within the sectors of Railways, Highways, telecoms, Power transmission and distribution.

In hot sunny climates, these housings when unprotected are subject to internal ambient rise outside of the internal equipment’s scope of design leading to thermal failures.

It is therefore the primary object of this invention to provide shielding of electromagnetic waves from the sun by cladding an existing or new steel or composite housing with LEMUR-AG15. The product is affixed to the outside of the housing to reflect and dissipate the sun’s energy before this energy radiates into the housing’s airspace increasing temperature rise above external ambient.

LEMUR-AG15 is affixed in such a way that it clads the outer surface of the housing and or panels reflecting the sun’s electromagnetic radiation away from the structure during those hours of the day when the sun’s energy is most intense. LEMUR-AG15 can be installed easily and without the need to open the enclosure doors or access panels and does not require the system to be de-energised and taken out of operational service. There is no requirement to drill or remove panels of the hous­ing nor a requirement for any specialist tools. The material can be supplied in log rolls or laser cut to specific panel patterns and supplied as a kit of parts to coat a single housing.

Another object of this invention is to provide effective thermal insulating of said housings negating the need for additional heaters during cold periods. An increase in energy efficiency can be ob­tained along with a reduction in service costs and maintenance tasks.

How is LEMUR AG-15 Installed?

The container/housing or building is measured up , this can be done digitally with drawings if necessary, if not an engineer will be on site to measure up any container/housings or buildings. With the measurements, each panel/wall has a pattern cut out to cover any possible direct sunlight. The patterns are then sent to the customer who can then install the cut patterns directly onto the source of application. The cut parts have an ‘ease peel’ which will be easy to find. The installer then has to assure the cut parts are lined up correctly before peeling and applying. Haide Technologies recommends depending on the amount of maintenance installers to use magnets. The magnets will help keep the sheet of LEMUR-AG15 in place as the installer is applying it to the LOC Case.
